Fatal Shooting in Cumberland Investigated

The Guernsey County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a fatal shooting Friday night in Cumberland. Lieutenant Sam Williams says around 8:00 p.m. his office received a 9-1-1 call from an elderly female who said her son was intoxicated and they had gotten into an argument. Lt. Williams says the son went into his bedroom and returned with a gun and fired several shot at her in the living room. Williams says the father went into the kitchen and returned with a small caliber rifle and after his son shot at him return fire striking his son. Lt. Williams identifies the son as 64-year-old Carl Jeffrey King. When deputies arrived King was found on the floor unresponsive and died at the scene. Lt. Williams says based on their investigation and the evidence it appears the son was shot in self-defense. The dad is 85. The Mom is 84. Their names were not released. The case will be turned over to the Guernsey County Prosecutor who will present it to a Grand Jury which is routine in a fatal shooting case.
