ZANESVILLE, Ohio – For families who’d like some chicken for their father’s day dinner, Falls Township Fire Department is serving.

The fire departments annual Fathers Day Chicken Barbecue is on Sunday. Fire Chief Brady Johnson said each dinner will contain one half chicken, applesauce, coleslaw, chips and a dinner role for $9.00.

“We had our very first chicken barbecue in 1964 and since then it’s just grown every year,” Johnson said. “For the last several years we’ve done 1,750 chicken halves.”

Johnson said you can dine in or carry out at Falls Township Fire Station on Dillon Falls Road or get carry out from their station on Richey Road.

The Fire stations will also pull out their trucks so the children can see first hand what fire-fighters need to work with.

“We want to make sure the kids can come and enjoy a fire truck,” Johnson said. “Every kid likes to look at a fire truck, but we also like to throw a little bit of our fire prevention into it too. Every time we can get the chance to explain to a kid how to dial 911, crawl under smoke, and how to be safe around fire. Any opportunity we can take to get that, we’ll do it.”

The Chicken Barbecue will start at 11:00 A.M. and end whenever the chicken sells out. Johnson said all proceeds will go towards the general fund.
