Fence on Buckeye Lake Dam for Replacement Work

Officials say a 6-foot, chain-link fence will be installed on the earthen dam at Buckeye Lake to block off a construction zone as work begins to replace the deteriorated structure. The fence will sit between the water’s edge and several hundred homes that have been built into the dam. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineer’s concluded houses and other structures have weakened the 4.1 mile dam and it’s at risk of failing, so the state plans to install a new barrier over the next few years. Representatives from the Department of Natural Resources and the design firm for the project discussed it during a meeting Wednesday with several hundred area residents. Some details are not clear, including exactly how long the lake level will be kept low but it could be until 2019.
