Fieldhouse Foundation awards area students

ZANESVILLE, Ohio- The Fieldhouse Foundation presented two awards to outstanding area high school graduates on Wednesday.
The two recipients, both graduates of Tri-Valley High School, were awarded scholarships to use toward their college education. To be considered, students had to demonstrate excellence in academics, participation in athletics and involvement in their community and church.
The 10th Annual Courage in Athletics Award was given to Jocee Janicki who will be attending Ohio Valley University to become a counselor.
“I am so glad that I can use it for college so that I can begin my path to helping other people overcome obstacles and showing people that they can get through anything in their way,” said Janicki.
The 17th Annual Scholar Athlete of the Year Award was given to Aaron Ross who will be attending Cedarville University to study mechanical engineering.
“It really means a lot to me I’m very honored because of what the award stands for and just things that I’ve tried to do in my life that is what this award stands for,” said Ross.
The awards were presented by Mick Amicone through the Fieldhouse Foundation.
“Our scholarships are unique and they’ve been that way for almost 20 years when this first started many years ago we wanted to make sure that we gave back through the foundation to the community,” said Amicone.
Other finalists for the award were Ethan Harris, Maria Johnson and Travis Johnston who will each receive a book stipend.
The Lifetime Achievement in Coaching was awarded to 92-year-old Paul Nestor for his impact on student athletes during his 46 years of coaching.
The awards were sponsored by the Fieldhouse Foundation, WHIZ Media Group, Gannett Foundation and Williamson Insurance.
