The last time Rosecrans (14-0) earned a number one ranking in 1999, the Bishops immediately fell in a trap-game at Bishop Watterson. This time around, Rosecrans pulled out the victory over their former C.C.L. opponent one day after being named the top ranked team in Division IV. However, it didn’t come easy at the Eagles Nest. Bishop Watterson (3-10), who played unbeaten Bishop Hartley and St. Francis Desales to four and two-point games respectively, led by one with one minute to play. That’s when the Bishops responded with a resounding 6-0 run to end the game winning by five, 51-46. It comes as Rosecrans first win over the Eagles in four games, and matches the Bishops win total from last season at 14.
In the MVL, the biggest upset of the night came thanks to the New Lexington Panthers who knocked off Tri-Valley on the road. With the win, Sheridan has the outright lead in the league. In the ECOL, Coshocton’s sweep of Dover has put the Redskins in position to win the ECOL title outright and they have control of their own destiny.
