DRESDEN, Ohio – Although the Tri-Valley Scotties swept their season series against Maysville last season, including a win in the district championship game, the two teams came into the 2020 season with a lot in common. Both teams lost three starters to graduation, but also returned their leading scorers.
So, when the two teams met Saturday morning for an early season matchup between two of the MVL’s best teams, a lot of questions were set to be answered.
A back and forth game throughout the first half, Tri-Valley carried a 30-25 lead into the locker room.
Once the teams returned to the court, it was all Scotties.
Tri-Valley outscored Maysville 15-5 in the third quarter, and held on to that lead to earn an impressive 61-47 win over the Panthers.

Back in Zanesville, the Rosecrans Lady Bishops opened their 2020-21 campaign, welcoming Grove City Christian to Rogge Gymnasium.
A defensive battle from beginning to end, Rosecrans trailed GCC by one at the end of the first, two at the end of the second and four at the end of the third.
The Eagles were able to pull away from the Bishops in the fourth to come away with the win.

In boys basketball, Zanesville head coach Scott Aronholt coached his 700th game for the school as the Blue Devils travelled to face rival Newark.
Zanesville was able to hang with the Wildcats for the first and most of the second, but a 19-4 run to end the second quarter kickstarted what became a game-long outburst of scoring from the ‘Cats.

In girls’ basketball: defending MVL co-champion Sheridan were finally able to take to the court today, and did they sure put on a show as the Generals dominate River View 76-27.
In her first ever high school game, freshman Jamisyn Stinson co-led all scorers with 19 points for the Generals, as did junior Bailey Beckstedt.

Philo welcomed John Glenn to the Power Plant as the Electrics looked to move to 3-0 on the season and in league play. Despite solid play and a chance to send the game into overtime, the end-game buzzer beater fell short.

Finishing off local basketball: the River View boys team traveled to West Holmes Saturday night, looking to rebound after a tough last second loss to New Lexington Friday night,
Unfortunately, the Black Bears drop this this one to the Knights, falling to 0-2 on the season.
