Fire Education Seminar
Just as important as the safety of fire victims is the safety of those who protect them. Firefighters perform constant training to remain at the top of their game.
Over 80 Zanesville firefighters headed to Zane State College Saturday. It was all in an effort to further their training during a fire education seminar. Zanesville’s Fire Chief Eric Waltemire explained what firefighters learned Saturday morning.
“We’re talking about transitional fire tact. Basically tactics of coming in and making early engine company decision making from a command standpoint, command decisions and what tactics we use in attacking different structural type fires ”
Waltemire said this course keeps firefighters up to date and keeps them on their toes. He says that continuous training is paramount to crews’ safety during dangerous situations.
“In the fire service we have the mantra that ‘everyone goes home.’ So the more we can prepare and not play what if games to prevent tragedies from happening to us on the scene as we’re trying to help the public it’s one of those thing that we try to do just to make sure that at the end of every fire, every shift that the men and women go home safe,” Waltemire said.
The ZFD tries to sponsor a training like this every six months.
