Flag Day Kick-Off

One group of local senior citizens helped kick of National Flag Week today.

Residents at the Clay House in Zanesville brought out their red, white and blue in celebration of the holiday. They’re also lining the front yard with American flags.

“What we’re doing is trying to get passersby to stop by and dedicate a flag,” said Residents Director Dana Lyndsey. “They can personalize a flag and stick it in our front lawn, with the name of someone that either in the services now or previously had been in the services.”

Lyndsey says this is the second year for the celebration.

“We had such a good turnout,” said Lyndsey. “We had over 100 flags in the front yard last year, so we thought we’d do it again this year.”

Flag Day itself is celebrated on June 14th with National Flag Week following. During National Flag Week, Americans are encouraged to fly the America flag. The day commemorates the adoption of the flag of The United States in 1777.
