Florence Paxson

Florence I. Paxson, 104, of Crooksville, died Saturday, May 2, 2026, at her daughter’s residence in Chattanooga, Tennessee, under the care of Hospice of Chattanooga. She was born January 18, 1922, in New Lexington, the daughter of Bud Abram and Margaret “Maggie” (Sowards) Abram. Florence married Lester Paxson on July 31, 1943, and they shared a loving, devoted marriage for 62 years.
Florence was a graduate of Ohio University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education. She was an educator who taught at Moxahala Elementary School, retiring after more than 22 years of service to her students, and was a lifetime member of the Perry County Retired Teachers Association. She was a dedicated member of Moxahala Methodist Church, where she served as a Sunday School Teacher, taught yearly Bible School, and was a member of the Women’s Society of Christian Service. Florence was also a 4-H leader and adviser for many years.
Florence was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who greatly enjoyed the time she spent with her family.
She is survived by her 3 children, John (Zoe Ann), Tom, and Janet Parsons, 7 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Florence was preceded in death by her husband, Lester, who died August 26, 2005; 4 sisters, Hazel Hill, Laura McCord, Esther Rose, and Thelma Quinn; 6 brothers, Leonard, Chester, Elsie, Homer, Donald, and Samuel Abram.
Visitation will be held 4:00 to 7:00pm Friday, May 15, 2026 and from 10am-11am on Saturday at the Moxahala Methodist Church, 10600 Vine Street, Moxahala, Ohio.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, at the church with Rev. Richard Newlon officiating.
Florence will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband, Lester, in New Lexington Cemetery.
