Flu Peaks in Ohio
The ache, fever, and flu symptoms are peaking in Ohio. Though cases are not as extreme as last year, officials say this week 267 Ohio residents were hospitalized. That’s double since January.
Local health officials say the H1N1 virus scare prompted more people to get flu shots however, that doesn’t mean the flu isn’t in the air but, it can be confused for a cold.
"Both have that runny nose. They may not have a fever; not everybody has a fever with that flu symptoms. The flu has more of that muscle ache and the kids especially have that nausea and vomiting," said Carol Howdyshell, Director of Nursing.
Howdyshell says to protect yourself, drink plenty of fluids and wash your hands. She says this year’s vaccine has helped .
"The other good thing that helps us this year is the strains for the flu prevention they put in the vaccine are a match to the trends that they are seeing," said Howdyshell.
If you do have symptoms Howdyshell suggests staying home, taking over the counter medicine and getting plenty of sleep. If problems persist consult a doctor before going to the hospital.
