Folds of Honor Golf Outing Raises Funds for Military Family Scholarships

The Zanesville Country Club hosted a golf outing today for the non-profit, Folds of Honor, sponsored by Budweiser and Matesich Distribution Company.

Folds of Honor is an organization that gives scholarships to the spouses and children of veterans and first responders who have died or were disabled due to their service. Like the men who gave their lives trying to save todays guest speaker, Rocky Sickmann, in Tehran in 1979.

“Eight people lost their lives in an attempted rescue operation. I had no idea until after I came home 444 days later, that I found out that these 8 had lost their life for me and so what we do in the military and I think American people, we forget at times. Those that serve our country in the military and now first responders, they leave home, some of them don’t come back. And if they do, some of them might be disabled. We should never forget their sacrifice,” said Sickmann, who is also the senior VP for Folds of Honor.

With 33 different chapters across the country, Folds of Honor has been able to accomplish a lot through its various golf outing fundraisers started by its founder, Lieutenant Colonel Dan Rooney in 2007.

“Since 2007, 52,000 scholarships have been provided. Out of every dollar that comes in 91 cents goes back into that scholarship. 45% of our recipients are minority and out of that 45%, 57% are female,” Sickmann said.
