Former Corrections Officer Receives 16 Year Prison Sentence

ZANESVILLE, Ohio–A former Muskingum County corrections officer has been sentenced on charges stemming from an incident earlier this year.
According to the Muskingum County Prosecutor’s Office, Bryan Catlin, 50, of Zanesville, appeared before Muskingum County Common Pleas Court Judge Gerald Anderson and was sentenced to 16 years in prison. Catlin will also be required to register as a violent offender annually for ten years.
Last month, Catlin pleaded guilty to several charges including Kidnapping, a felony of the first degree, Domestic Violence, a misdemeanor of the first degree, Obstructing Official Business, a felony of the fifth degree with a Firearm Specification and Improperly Handling Firearms in a Motor Vehicle a felony of the fifth degree.
Officials said on May 24, 2025, the victim called the Muskingum County Sheriff’s Office and reported that Catlin was in possession of a firearm, that Catlin had abused her, and that his mental state was of concern to her.
The victim reported that she and Catlin had argued in the early hours of May 22, and that there was an altercation. Officials said Catlin was arrested later that day following a nearly three hour standoff with law enforcement at the Zanesville Memorial Park Cemetery.
