Former Genesis Employee Sentenced For Theft From Charity

A Zanesville woman was sentenced today in connection with the theft of over $100,000 from a local charity. 46-year-old Tamara Mealey appeared in Muskingum County Common Pleas Court today and was sentenced to two years in prison by Judge Kelly Cottrill. Mealey, a former Good Samaritan Medical Center Gift Shop Manager, plead guilty in July to stealing just over $142,000 dollars from the volunteer group Charity Circle at Genesis. Genesis officials issued the following statement: “We are satisfied with the sentencing of the court and feel it recognizes the valuable contribution of the Charity Circle members who generously volunteer to support Genesis in its mission to provide quality health care for our community. We also want to thank local law enforcement and the prosecutor’s office for the attention they have given this matter.” Mealey was also ordered by the court to pay restitution.
