Former Lobbyist Speaks on Washington Corruption and Scandal
One of the men involved in one of the biggest bribery scandals ever in Washington has written a book about the incident. An incident that had local connections with former 18th District Congressman Bob Ney and Jack Abramoff.
Neil Volz was Ney’s Former Chief of Staff and went on to work for Abramoff as a powerful lobbyist. In his book he looks back on his role in the Abramoff Indian bribery scandal and reflects on why he made the decisions he says he now regrets.
"In my opinion it’s the individual whose responsible, in my case I’m responsible for my own decisions, I take the view that the Abramoff scandal couldn’t have happened if myself, Bob Ney and Jack Abramoff would have simply made different decisions," said Volz.
Details of his story are being told in the memoir "Into The Sun." Volz said like many other politicians he felt a need to gain power and wealth, causing him to fall into the path of corruption. He said lessons he learned are still comparable to what is going on in Washington today.
"I want the entire region here, the area where Bob represented and the area I worked for, I want them to know I’m deeply sorry," expressed Volz. "I made stupid mistakes and people here got hurt and I don’t know that I can ever undo that but this book is one small way of me trying to give back a little bit. "
After not speaking to Congressman Nay for nearly 5 years. Volz said they are now on good terms. To learn more about Neil Volz’s journey or to purchase his book visit, www.neilvolz.com.
