Former Zanesville Mayor-Judge Dies

A well known Zanesville man who served the community as Zanesville Municipal Court Judge for 16 years and Muskingum County Common Pleas Judge for 6 years and Mayor of Zanesville has died. Howard “Butch” Zwelling died Saturday night. He was appointed Zanesville Mayor in 2005 following the death of then Mayor Jack Fenton. In November of 2011 Zwelling told Whiz News in an interview that he was especially proud of “meetings with President Barack Obama, handshakes with Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and former Governor Ted Strickland. But, Mayor Zwelling wouldn’t have met any of these people if he hadn’t taken the plunge into public office. For that he thanks Doctor England, a former councilman.” The Bolin-Dierkes Funeral Home is handling the arrangements, which have not yet been finalized.
