Francis “Butch” Lee Miller, 74, lost his courageous battle with cancer on Thursday, October 8, 2026 surrounded by his family at Morrison House in Zanesville. Butch was born on July 22, 1952 in Coshocton, Ohio to Francis & Hazel (Tharp) Miller.

He was a 1970 graduate of Zanesville High School and a member of Market Street Baptist Church. On July 26,1970 he married the love of his life, Debbie (Hepler) Miller. Together they raised three sons and adopted many “honorable” children and animals along the way.

Butch retired from AK Steel after 30 years and kept himself busy post-retirement working for Northside Oxygen and Medical, Zanesville Toyota and driving bus for Head Start. He loved going to Jamboree in the Hills, taking golf trips to Myrtle Beach, traveling to see his grandchildren, volunteering for PAWS, and working with his wife in their small business Sweetwoods Creation. He was also a huge sports fanatic that loved the Cincinnati Reds, Cincinnati Bengals and ANYONE that BEAT Ohio state.

Butch was truly loved and hated by everyone he met. He had the heart of a lion but was always blunt and straight to the point. He could always be counted on to tell anyone the good or bad, bold truth and be quick with a wisecrack comeback. He lived life the way he wanted and loved the little things like getting coffee at Tim Horton with his buddies, Randy & Jay, and complaining about the government. He will always be remembered as a man with an ornery smile who was never at a loss for words.

Butch is survived by his wife and sons, Travis (Mindy) Miller, Terence (Jamie) Miller and Trent (Hollie) Miller; his grandchildren, Jalen Stewart, Kayla Miller, Katie Miller, Kara Miller, Emma (David) Martinez, Carter Miller and Hadley Miller; and great-grandchildren, Lennon, Stella and Beckham. He also leaves behind numerous cousins and his loyal companion, Buddy.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sisters, Mary Dougherty and Patricia Clayton. A Living Funeral Celebration was hosted in his honor on September 5, 2026. On behalf of Butch, his family would like to give their heartfelt thanks to all who attended and made that day so very touching and memorable.
