Duane Fredrick “Fred” Harper, 83 of Zanesville passed away on Friday June 5, 2026 at Genesis Hospital.
Fred was born in Crooked Tree, Ohio (near Caldwell) on August 29, 1942 to the late Lawrence and Bessie Gardner Harper. He was the 1960 Salutatorian at Southern Noble Local High School. Fred retired as Vice President of Quality Fire Trucks in Talladega, Alabama. He was a member of the Eagles Aerie 302, Sons of the American Legion, Mended Hearts, Pleasant Grove Methodist Church, and Washington Fire Department where he formerly served as Fire Chief. Fred had a love for his family, his community, and was a friend to all that knew him.
He is survived by his loving wife Marlene Turner Harper (DATE), three children: Diana (Dave) Sprankle, Michael Harper, and Richard (Rita) Harper, Nine Grandchildren: Brad (Laura) Tom, Richie Harper, Megan (Todd) Henry, Joshua (Alexyus) Pride, Eric (Laura) Redfern, Jessica (Bryan) Bradshaw, Molly Sprankle, Megan Sprankle, and Mson Sprankle, Five great-grandchildren: Cuyler Henry, Tanner Henry, Noveah Pride, Delilah Pride, and Judson Pride, and a special family friend Kaylyn Drummonds.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother Dwight Harper and a sister Virginia Wagner.
Calling hours will be from 10am to 12pm on Thursday June 11 at THE SNOUFFER FUNERAL HOME 1150 WEST MILITARY ROAD ZANESVILLE. Funeral service will follow at 12pm (Noon) with Pastor Dean Cole officiating.
Burial will follow at a later date in Pleasant Grove Cemetery.
