Fred Love

With heavy hearts and grateful souls, we celebrate the life of Fred Thomas Love, who passed away peacefully on March 13, 2025, just shy of his 84th birthday. A man of boundless love, generosity, and adventure, Fred left an indelible mark on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
For 54 years, he was the loving husband of Mary Jane (Culbertson), a partnership built on laughter, devotion to their family, and a shared love for life’s journey. He was an extraordinary father and father-in-law to Fred Holt Love and his wife Meg (Kreutzer), and Marci Love Thomas and her husband Ryan. His greatest joy, however, was being “Poppy” to his cherished grandchildren—Fred Kreutzer Love, Hunter Holt Love, Dylan Love Thomas, and Lachlan Love Thomas—each of whom brought him immense pride and happiness.
Fred was a storyteller at heart, captivating his family and friends with tales that wove together humor, history, and life lessons. Fred lived with a spirit of adventure, a deep appreciation for the outdoors, and a heart that embraced every moment. A soldier in the Army, he served his country with honor. An artist with a gifted hand, he found beauty in the world around him. A hunter, a chess player, and an Ohio State fan through and through, he never missed a chance to celebrate the simple joys of life. Road trips, car races, and long walks on the beach were among his favorite pastimes.
Beyond his personal passions, Fred was a man of service and dedication. As a soccer coach, a Mason, a Shriner, and an active member of the Amrou Grotto, he believed in camaraderie, mentorship, and giving back. He found immense fulfillment in supporting the Special Olympics and bringing joy to Starlight School children through circus trips to Columbus. He lived by the belief that every small act of kindness could make the world a better place.
Fred’s presence was larger than life, his laughter contagious, and his love unwavering. Though we mourn his passing, we also celebrate the remarkable legacy he leaves behind—a life well-lived, love deeply shared, and memories that will be cherished forever. While we wish we had just one more road trip, one more joke, one more of those deep laughs, we know he left us the reminder to make every moment count, to find joy in the small things, and to always, always be a friend.
A Celebration of Fred’s Life will be held at THE SNOUFFER FUNERAL HOME, 1150 WEST MILITARY ROAD, ZANESVILLE, OHIO, on Sunday, March 30, at 3pm. Visiting hours will be from 2pm to 3pm. Cremation care has been entrusted to The Snouffer Crematory.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his honor to Shriners Children’s, at LovetotheRescue.org.
