Free Bootcamp for Non-Profits

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Two local organizations invited Ohio Assistant Attorney General Abby Kline Jacobs to speak to local non-profits on staying legally compliant.

Muskingum County Community Foundation and Muskingum County Library System are hosting the Free Non-Profit Bootcamp so local volunteers of non-profits can learn about board governance, legal obligations, and problem prevention.

“It’s a great opportunity for non-profit organizations to meet with an attorney from the Ohio Attorney Generals Office, hear a presentation and then be able to ask questions in a friendly atmosphere as opposed to maybe being forced in an audit situation,” Muskingum County Community Foundation’s C.E.O. Brian Wagner said. “Where they’re being told ‘hey you’re no longer compliant and you can’t operate as a non-profit anymore.”

According to Wagner the reason behind this boot camp was because in recent grant cycles M.C.C.F. came across organizations who are eligible for the grants, but couldn’t receive those funds due to not being non-profit compliant either to the Ohio Attorney General’s Office or the I.R.S.

“They couldn’t receive those dollars,” Wagner said. “We hated to think that because an organization hadn’t had the right education in what they needed to submit to stay compliant and that they were going to miss out on grant dollars that could help extend their programs or keep their programs running.”

The boot camp will be held in the auditorium at John McIntire Library on November 6, 2017. There are two sessions scheduled with the first running from 2:00 P.M. – 4:00 P.M. and the second running from 6:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M. The boot camp is free to any non-profit in and near Muskingum County, however each organization attending needs to register prior to the event.
