Free Transportation

As warmer weather approaches so does bike season and with the rising gas prices more people maybe pedaling. The 360 Bike Shop on Market Street has what you will need to make sure your bike is ready, but owner Mike Brooks is also helping others for free. See video left.
As Spring approaches bike riders prepare for the season and Mike Brooks of 360 Bike Shop offers package deals to make sure your bike is ready.
"You want to check it out and ride it if it is ride-able. If it isn’t riding right, if it seems like a hassle or your gears aren’t shifting correctly, it is obviously not right and you want to make sure your wheels are straight and your brakes feel good," said Brooks.
His jobs goes beyond fixing and selling bikes; he also donates time and bikes to those in need.
"What we do is bike that people are throwing away we like to have those bikes. People donate them, we fix them up, get them ready to go and distribute them through town," said Brooks.
If you donate your bike and need a new one or just need a bike there are plenty of options.
A tuned-up used bike can cost under $200 and a new bike under $400. With gas prices rising a bike is an investment.
"You can think about that as a one time fee. They’re very low maintenance. They come with fenders, they’re built for transportation and you can think of it as a way to combat high gas prices," explains Brooks.
May 16 – 20 Zanesville is asking residents to bike to work. Biking to work can help the environment, even if you just do it for a week.
"You are not burning fuel so you are not spending resources just distributing carbon monoxide – carbon dioxide in the air so your local environment can be affected a lot," tells Brooks.
If you have a bike you are not using drop it off. Brooks has donated 15 bikes and does not plan on stopping.
