Freedom Fellowship hosts first annual fundraiser for warming center

CAMBRIDGE, Ohio- A local church is using their efforts to save lives in more ways than one.

Offering a spaghetti dinner with salad, desserts and more, Called To Freedom Fellowship even had a silent auction to help raise funds to advance their warming station.

“We have started a warming center which will eventually based on the funds we raise become a full blown shelter. We’re going to fashion it after a little bit after the ones that’s in Zanesville and some of the others we’ve visited which would basically mean that people would be able to come and for a 90 day stay and we would help them get reestablished, a place to live and a job,” said First Lady of Called To Freedom Fellowship, Marcha Hollins.

Event volunteer, Amy Workman says as someone who’s experienced homelessness in her lifetime, she’s dedicated and passionate about supporting the cause.

“I was once homeless, so my heart and passion is in helping them get started. I am from this area and I go to church here. Just to see the people that’s in need, it breaks my heart. We’re hoping to re-establish faith in those lost souls that are out here. A lot of people turn to drugs because they have no one. If we’re here and the church is wise, our community to lean on it and then maybe we can make a change,” said Workman.

Although the warming station is for those in need of all ages, Pastor bob Hollins spoke about the importance of helping kids in transition.

“Also, to help these kids in transition to maybe getting a job or furthering their education, to opening checking accounts and just having a place to stay. That’s one of the things we’re looking at. I think it’s needed for our community here that people whether for good choices or bad choices find themselves in situations they can’t get out of, so they just need that helping hand,” said Pastor Hollins.

The fundraiser had over one hundred and seventy sponsors that made donations to advancing the future shelter. For more information regarding the church or shelter,  visit the Freedom Fellowship Facebook page.
