ZANESVILLE, Ohio – This week the Friends of the Library are being recognized by the Muskingum County Library System.

Friends of the Library Public Relations Coordinator Beverly Bell shared how the organization of volunteers play a vital role in the functions that MCLS provides throughout the year.

“Let’s start back with the Friends of the Library was first founded and established in 1976. And it incorporates a lot of people from the community. All walks of life can join the membership. The membership, you can join at any of the branches. There are applications at all of the branches that you can pick up and join. You can also participate in all the events that are held for Friends members only,” Bell said.

Perks of joining as a member of the Friends of the Library include getting first dibs at the fundraising book sales, which raise funds to book the various programs and events that are held across the branch libraries throughout the year.

“They may pick up this form at any of the branches or here at John McIntire,” Bell said. “To participate in joining, it’s $10 dollars for the year and if you join now, that membership will extend to December of 2027. So you get a little bit of extra on your joining at this time. Also joining at this time will give you an opportunity to come to a Friends Book Sale that’s going to be happening in November.”

The Friends of the Library isn’t just limited to the John McIntire Library as members can volunteer to serve by performing various tasks that are needed at every branch of the Muskingum County Library System.

The Friends of the Library Bookstore located on the second floor of the John McIntire Library will be open every day this week in recognition of Friends of the Library Week. Each branch library has a Friends of the Library book cart that offers books that are available for purchase every day.
