Gant Stadium Set for New Playground Upgrades
ZANESVILLE, OH – The city’s beloved Gant Stadium, a historical landmark in Zanesville, is on the brink of a significant transformation.
The city of Zanesville has recently been awarded an approximately $100,000 grant from the Straker Foundation. This financial boost will go towards the construction of a new playground at the Gant Stadium, replacing the previous play structure that was removed to make way for necessary improvements.
“In the late 60’s, early 70’s, the equipment was old. I will just tell you it never got any younger. We’re excited to have modern playground equipment that’ll be going in the by the end of this summer so that children can play.” Zanesville City Mayor, Don Mason said.
Apart from the playground, the stadium has seen and will see various upgrades. These enhancements reflect the city’s commitment to preserving the heritage while making updates to meet modern community needs.
“In long term, our goal is to create more uses at Gant Stadium. We’re finishing up the lights this week for the baseball stadium, which were about $600,000. I would love to put in the right field is a girls’ softball field. The regulation fields for girls’ softball fits nicely into that corner. The other thing we’ve been conceptualizing is either a flag football field for adults where the left field is, or a coed soccer field.” Mason said.
The Gant Stadium playground is expected to be finished by the end of this summer.
