Gas Prices up in May
Memorial Day means traveling to see family and friends but you may want to check the pump before you book your trip.
Drivers at the local Marathon gas station on Underwood St. are not happy with the $2.69 a gallon price they found today. Zanesville native Andrew Rostash said that he cannot seem to keep up with the constant fluctuation in price.
“It’s ridiculous and it’s kind of playing with our emotions and our wallets,” said Rostash. “It drops and then it’s back up. They drop it down again and then the next day it’s right back up again.”
Businesses also take a hit when gas prices are on the rise. Columbus native Shawn Miller said that driving from Columbus to outlying cities for work each day takes a toll.
“It’s insane,” said Miller. “It’s very very very insane, with our business and everything with how much gas we use a day, it’s pretty much an increase on our on pretty much all revenue and everything. ”
Miller said that with prices like these, he is likely to celebrate Memorial Day at home.
Although the prices are up 30 cents today, they are still down almost $1.00 from last year in May when gas averaged $3.63 a gallon.
