Gas tax holiday signed into law through the rest of 2026

Gas Pump Increase

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio Governor Mike DeWine signed House Bill 519 into law on Thursday morning, which temporarily reduces the price at the pump through the rest of 2026. The bill has a three-day window to allow gas stations to implement the reduction.

Gas prices will be lowered by 38.5 cents per gallon and 47 cents per gallon of diesel and will be in full effect by Oct. 4.

House Bill 519 reallocates $725,250,000 from the General Revenue Fund to cover the expected loss from the suspended fuel taxes. This reallocation is an effort by legislators to ensure that the roads can still be maintained, a worry DeWine had voiced when the gas tax holiday was first proposed.

These measures were made in an effort to combat rising gas prices which, according to AAA, have gone up 40% from a year ago. This increase has been primarily attributed to the War in Iran.
