ZANESVILLE, Ohio- Genesis HealthCare System is one of 44 hospitals in Ohio to receive an “A” in patient safety.

The Leapfrog Group, a national patient safety watchdog, awarded Genesis for being among the safest hospitals in the United States. We sat down with Genesis Chief of Medical Affairs Officer, Medical Doctor Dan Scheerer regarding this prestigious award.
“It’s very important to me,” said Scheerer. “I’ve practiced medicine in this community for 34 years. And safety is top priority. It’s nice when we get that recognition from outside organizations that we’re actually providing a very safe environment for our patients.”

Established under the guidance of Leapfrog’s Blue Ribbon Expert Panel, the hospital safety score uses 30 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign A,B,C,D, and F grades to more than 2,500 U.S. hospitals twice a year.

“Leapfrog is certainly reputable source. Hospital compare is another one. Those are validated scores and I would caution you when you look at those web sites is the time frames can be different,” said Scheerer.
