Genesis Hospital Brings Holiday Cheer with Annual Tree of Love Lighting Ceremony

ZANESVILLE, OH – The holiday spirit is set to come alive at Genesis Hospital in Zanesville this Friday night.

Genesis Healthcare System is hosting their annual Tree of Love Lighting Ceremony starting at 6PM at the main entrance of the hospital.

Lee McGee, the Volunteer Manager, said they’ve hosted this event for 38 years to help honor the life and legacy of community members.

“The Genesis Volunteer groups put this on, in regards to in memory of or in honor of somebody,” McGee said. “The reason they do this is because it benefits the hospital and it benefits our community as well.”

In addition to the tree lighting ceremony there will also be entertainment provided by the John Glenn High School Choir, the Broadway Babies, as well as a performance by Marjorie & Butch’s School of Dance.

Following the ceremony, attendees are invited to walk around and check out all of the light displays, grab some light refreshments and have a visit with St. Nick in the main lobby.

She said she hopes for the families who have placed a tree in memory of a loved one feel a little closer to them through this event.

“During this time we’re hoping that it will bring peace in memory of them, as they are able to see and especially during the lighting ceremony,” McGee explained. “They can come and stand by their tree so that they can have that special moment with that person that they’re remembering or if it’s in honor of, just to recognize that person for what they’ve done for the community.”

The tree lighting ceremony is free and open to the public.
