ZANESVILLE, Ohio- A local hospital receives top honors and recognition for its efforts in organ donations.

Genesis Healthcare System receives the Hospital of the Year Award by Lifeline of Ohio. Genesis received this top honor by demonstrating outstanding collaboration in support of organ, eye, and tissue donation.

“We believe at Genesis in putting the patient and family first and that includes with donation. Our award is related to truly hospital wide. We typically think of physicians and nurses.  But this year’s awards included people like the it department, our security department, our chaplain office and spiritual care worker,” said Genesis Healthcare System donor liaison Daniel Vincent.

Vincent said organ donation is important.

“Nationally there are more than 24,000 people that are on the waiting list for a lifesaving organ. And sadly of those 24,000 on average 22 will die everyday waiting never receiving an organ. So with that we are doing as much as we can to promote donation. The good news is that one donor can save 8 lives,” said Vincent.
