Genesis Receives New Federal Designation
A new designation will bring more federal resources to the Genesis Health Care System.
Senator Sherrod Brown announced Tuesday that the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services has labeled Genesis as a Sole Community Hospital.
The SCH designation allows the hospital to receive increased Medicare reimbursement, resulting in $6 million more revenue.
According to a press release, Genesis was set to lose more than $6 million in annual Medicare reimbursements under a formula that measures wage rates for a metropolitan area.
The SCH status is available to hospitals which are 35 miles from other like hospitals or are located in a rural area and meet special criteria. Genesis applied for the designation in October of 2010 as a rural hospital.
