Going Green For Christmas
Christmas is traditionally a time of over consumption for many families. While many may splurge on toys and clothes, you can save money and give back to mother nature by going green this holiday season.
Now going green is all about saving energy. So Tip #1 Use LED Christmas Lights.
LED Christmas lights can save you around 30% on your Christmas electric bill and they are brighter than regular lights.
"They save like the CFL bulb. They burn a high wattage of light, of brightness, but the actual watt you use is much less," says Frank Berlo a Going Green Specialist for Home Depot.
Tip#2: Buy a potted pine tree with its roots. Once Christmas is over you can plant the pine tree outside.
"Now you have a Christmas tree outside, your landscaping is more beautiful, as well as the time you have to share for Christmas in your home," says Berlo.
Tip #3 Use recycled wrapping paper. All recycled items are clearly marked to help shoppers.
"So the whole world is energy conscious and we carry the stuff it is marked on there, go green, you know it has been recycled so it is a savings to your community as well as yourself," says Berlo.
Going green for the holiday season is one simple step to a healthier world.
