Got Pain – Give Chiropractics a Crack

Chiropractic is the portion of the health care system that deals primarily with Muscular Skeletal problems. Though the stereotype is it helps with back problems it can help other issues.

"They may have had headaches for 10 years and they’re taking probably a fair amount of over the counter drugs or even some meds which probably helped them but it doesn’t seem to get rid of the problem," said Dr. Richard Shaw, Zanesville Chiropractic and Physical Therapy.

Some patients recently had an accident that caused their body to change; while others just know their muscles are not working right. Chiropractics can heal muscle tissue causing problems.

"When those muscles contract they actually take these joints and they turn them,  twist them, and they compress the joint which creates a lot of pain for the patient," said Dr. Shaw.

The doctor wants the joint to move again. Usually this is done through an adjustment. Patients leave feeling relief that with lifestyle changes can last. Cracking your own muscles only provides temporary relief and may not be a good idea.

After visiting the chiropractor you may not feel the need to do it anymore because your joints will be moving again and cracking yourself could lead to more pain.

"It is just not a good idea unless they understand some of the physical aspects that are associated with it that says no don’t do that, " said Shaw.

The doctor will adjust you and give you exercises to repair the muscle tissue so you do not rely on the adjustments. There are some people, though rare, who should not be adjusted. The doctor will know if you should be.

"When they come to us we will first evaluate them. We will look at them we will do an exam on them and we will look and see how much movement they actually have," answered Shaw.

They look for swelling, measure the muscle, take an x-ray and specifically look at parts of the spine. Once the process is complete patients are able to take care of themselves.

Most major insurance companies cover going to the chiropractor.
