Governor Discusses 2024

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Governor Mike DeWine recognizes many issues that Ohioans are facing and took a moment to discuss ways that some of those issues are being addressed.
Ohio is drawing some of the world’s most prominent employers to supply jobs and is funding education and training programs, which will cater to the various skill sets that people will need to fill positions that will be in-demand.
“Well I think Ohio is really moving forward, this is really our time in history,” DeWine said. “We’ve got companies that are coming from California locating here. We’ve got them coming from the East Coast. We’ve got the lowest unemployment we’ve had in a long, long time. Our bond rating is better than it’s ever been in the history of the state. There’s just a lot of good things going on. And as I look forward to 2024, our focus is going to remain on people.”
Education on all levels will be a major focus in 2024. From high-tech, skilled training to children under 5-years-old learning the fundamentals of reading. DeWine wants to see children better prepared for Kindergarten and adults better prepared for employment.
“I just think that we have a great future,” DeWine said. “What I see in Zanesville, Muskingum County and surrounding counties is things are moving in the right direction. We just have to continue to really focus on bringing more jobs into Muskingum County, into the region and making sure our workers have the training that they need so they can in fact get a good paying job. But I’m optimistic about Ohio and optimistic about our future.”
DeWine praised Muskingum County for having one of the highest Dolly Parton Imagination library participation rates in Ohio. The program mails one book per month at no charge to children under 5 and more than 400,000 books are mailed to Ohio children each month.
