Greenwing Event Encourages Youth to Take to the Outdoors

One organization is asking kids to put down the video game controllers and become one with nature.

Zanesville’s Ducks Unlimited is hosting their annual Greenwing event this Saturday. It provides area youth the opportunity to experience some outdoor activities that they may not otherwise.

"A lot of the times, children are stuck inside playing video games, watching movies, and don’t get a chance to get outside and learn about the outdoors. So it’s a good thing to get them outside, get them educated, and get them to learn about hunting and boating safety," says Ben Whitacre of the Zanesville Ducks Unlimited chapter.

In addition to safety lessons, Ducks Unlimited works to educate youth on the importance of waterfowl conservation. Saturday, there will be many activities for kids to participate in and learn from.

"We’ll have dog retriever demonstrations, sporting clays, archery, boater’s safety, hunting safety, as well as general shooting events," says David Mortimer of the Zanesville Ducks Unlimited chapter.

Registration starts at 10:30 a.m. at the Dillon Sportsman Center. The cost to attend is $20 per child and covers the Greenwing annual registration fee, as well as food and prizes. The event runs from noon until 3 p.m.
