Ground Hog Day has Community Meaning

Ground Hog Day has two meanings in Muskingum County. One is the annual event hosted by the County Community Foundation.

Two community members will be honored at the event and there will be a special tribute to honor Dick Johnson. More than 400 people are expected to attend. It is the largest crowd since the event began sixteen years ago.

"It’s a time in which we celebrate people who have made a difference in the community. All proceeds from the even go to a grant competition" said David Mitzel, County Community Foundation.

Any non-profit organization can apply for the grant. For Friday different caterers will have food and drinks. The biggest part of the evening is the auctions. 200 pieces will be part of a silent auction and 40 will be in the live auction.

"It is something that is just there to benefit the community and have a lot of fun doing it. It’s not celebrating anything except this large rodent" said Mitzel.

Tickets are $26.00 and will be available at the event. It is held at Ohio University Zanesville.
