Growing Older, Staying Fit
Staying fit and healthy as you age can be difficult, and even harder when the temperature start to drop.
That’s why the Muskingum County Center for Seniors holds an array of classes.
"The classes we have are always full," said Debra Smith of the center. "We have the Wii games. The seniors love to play that. They play bowling and boxing and tennis. Wednesday is our league day for Wii bowling."
Smith said some of the exercises are more geared toward staying physically fit while others focus on the mind–like tai chi.
"It’s a very good program for mind and body," she said. "It’s slow movements and the participants say they don’t even realize they’re exercising, but it makes you feel good afterwards."
Smith said groups gather together to knit, quilt, and sew. She said there is also the opportunity for walkers to do laps around the inside of the building away from the weather or dancing on Friday nights.
