Gus Macker Nearing

The countdown to the Gus Macker 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament in downtown Zanesville is just over a week away.

Around 500 teams will be participating in the event. Downtown Association Manager, Dana Matz, says that number is down from last year.

"A little bit disappointed in that, but it is what it is. Gas prices are up and with the economic times-if you look at all the foreclosures-we’ll just take it in the current economy, " says Matz.

Matz says Gus Macker will go on, despite the weather.

"We’ve done it in the rain. We’ve done it in the high temperatures. We’ve done it in wind brakers. So, I think we’re pretty set, and we’ll take whatever we can get, " says Matz.

The baskets will arrive next Tuesday. Set-up is scheduled for that Wednesday, and the courts will be placed on the streets the night before the event. Matz says volunteers are still needed. Contact the Welcome Center if you’re interested.
