ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Habitat for Humanity of Southeast Ohio plays a key role in building the American Dream for families here in Muskingum County.

Habitat’s Community Engagement Director Melissa Best explained how funding for the construction process always takes a community effort.

“One way that we can build these homes is by having community support,” Best said. “So we have the ‘Suds and Studs’ event coming up, June 7th. It’s at the American Legion and it’s going to be a great event. It’s going to be a lot of fun and we’re asking people to sponsor some studs, come down, decorate the studs or at least come down and put your name on them, enjoy the music. We’re going to have the grill going and cold drinks. It’s going to be a great event.”

Individual support is always welcome but it’s partnering with other local organizations that can make the biggest impact. Daybreak Rotary Club President Elect Julie MacLaine explained how her organization provides volunteers to assist in the homebuilding effort.

“For our Rotarians, ‘Service Above Self’ is our motto,” MacLaine said. “And we couldn‘t think of a better way to be able to express and give to the community than to be partnering with Habitat for Humanity. We were able to come out here. We had folks here yesterday, today, tomorrow and we think sharing our talents; we’re not sure how much talent we have at building homes but we have a great time for a great cause. And Rotary, Daybreak Rotary is very involved with Habitat for Humanity and we just think it’s a great project to be able to contribute to our community.”

The ‘Studs and Suds’ fundraising event will take place from 4 to 7 Friday, June 7th, at American Legion Post 29, 27 South Third Street in Zanesville. They will have live music, food, drinks and plenty of fun.
