Head to Toe, Ready to Go: Helping kids get ready for the school year
ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Pencils, crayons, notebooks, shoes, and clothes were collected today for the Stuff the Bus event at the Zanesville Walmart.
Delta Kappa Gamma, a professional honor society for women educators, collected donations for the Head to Toe, Ready to Go program. The program is partnership collaborative effort between Tools for School, Lace Up for Kids, and Muskingum Families & Children First. The organizations make sure that students are ready for the new school year with classroom supplies, new shoes, and fresh clothes.
“There are a lot of students in need in Muskingum County and we do cover all the Muskingum County Schools. This year we are packing over 1,000 bookbags for students and Lace Up is packing, or preparing to give more than 900 sets of shoes away too,” Betty Caw said.
Caw is a co-chair of the Tools for School committee in Delta Kappa Gamma and a former school counselor at Zanesville High School. Caw says that there are plenty of opportunities to volunteer if you missed out on the Stuff the Bus event.
“For Tools for Schools, we are packing the book bags, July 28 and 29. So if anyone is interested in helping pack those bags, they can reach out to Eastside and get in contact with our volunteer coordinator to come those days. We have two shifts. 9 to 11 [a.m.] and 1 to 3 [p.m.] both those days. ”
You can also sign up to help with distribution on August 1 for both the Lace Up program and Tools For School. If you missed the Stuff the Bus event, you can drop off donations at Eastside Essentials at 218 Stillwell Street in Zanesville.
