Health Department looking for kid participants in photovoice project

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – The Zanesville-Muskingum County Health Department is having a photovoice project to try to enhance the community.
They are asking kids ages 13-to-18 who live in the county to submit photos, both positive and negative, of the community that they live in. Kylie Jones with the Zanesville-Muskingum County Health Department said this will give people a chance to see how kids view the community.
“We’re having kids take pictures of what they think our community does well, and what needs improvement,” said Jones. “We want them to tell their story about their community through pictures. Then we’re going to talk with them and have a focus group so they can talk about the pictures and what it means to them.”
Jones says that the photos will be displayed around the community in local businesses and that kids who participate do not need their own camera or any previous photography skills. Jones said she hopes that the project will bring positive change.
“I would really like to hear the kids voice and what they think about living here in Muskingum County and what we can inprove on. And it gives them a chance to have a voice,” said Jones.
