Healthy Kids Day Coming to the YMCA

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Today’s fast paced culture offers many automated conveniences and tricky time schedules that lend to physical inactivity and exhaustion from stress.

The effects can have a big impact on not only adults but children as well. Muskingum County Family YMCA Health and Wellness Director Sarah Savage announced an upcoming event that introduces kids to fun ways to stay in shape.

“It’s an annual free event that we have every year,” Savage said. “It’s to get the community in to show the opportunities of what the YMCA has to offer. A lot of times, people think they can’t afford and think it’s not within their budget but we have financial scholarships and we do not send anyone away. Don’t feel like you can’t afford the YMCA. We want the children to come in and have this opportunity.”

The Y offers many programs throughout the year that benefit the youth by building confidence through socializing and physical activity. Saturday’s event will offer many fun and entertaining activities.

“We will set up a bounce house. We have an obstacle course set up in the gymnasium. This is for all ages. Our pool will be open. So we’ll also be doing safety around water demonstrations and have activities there. The fire trucks will be there, that’s huge for the kids. The Muskingum County Sheriff’s Department will be doing the kids fingerprint ID,” Savage said.

Healthy Kids Day will take place from 11-til-2 this Saturday at the YMCA located at 1425 Newark Road, behind the OUZ campus. For more information about the Muskingum County Family YMCA you can visit them online.
