Helen Matthews

Helen Louise Matthews, 92, passed away on January 2, 2026 while in the care of the StoryPoint Assisted Living Facility in Gahanna. She was born February 4, 1933 in Zanesville, Ohio to Alfred and Ada Louise (Clark) Calhoon. She was a longtime resident of Broadview Heights, Ohio. Helen was a dedicated worker over the years; she worked as Manufacturing Representative, a Realtor, and she taught at the Roseville High School. Helen was a master bridge player, was a member of the Ohio University Board of Directors for a number of years, she was a redcoat at the Playhouse Square in Cleveland, was a member of the Chippewa Garden Club, the Ohio and Northern Ohio Quarter Horse Association, she could often be found volunteering her time, and she had a great love of animals, especially cats.
She is survived by her loving daughter, Hilary Matthews, her sister, Judy Brinkman, and her beloved cat, Rascal.
Helen is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Edward Matthews who passed away November 9, 2013, and her brother, Robert Calhoon.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Licking County Humane Society, 825 Thornwood Dr SW, Heath, OH 43056.
A graveside service will be held on January 7 at 11 A.M. at Zanesville Memorial park, with services by the Eastern Star preceding interment. All arrangements have been entrusted to the BOLIN-DIERKES FUNERAL HOME, 1271 BLUE AVENUE, ZANESVILLE.
