Help Fill Food Baskets for the Salvation Army
If you’re looking for a way to give back this holiday season, the Salvation Army needs your help.
The organization is still in need of donations to fill its Christmas food baskets. Program director, Dustin Redmond, said they hope to fill 1,800 food baskets this year, which is a slight increase from last year. Baskets will include a whole turkey, ham, or chicken with all the fixin’s. Time is running out to make a contribution, as the last day to donate is December 16.
“We currently are accepting donations of canned food, vegetables, boxed dinner, such as macaroni and cheese, stuffing, and different things like that,” Redmond said. “We’re also looking for donations for meat, such as turkey, whole chickens, or a whole ham.”
Each year, local residents turn to the Salvation Army for help during the holidays. So, if you’d like to help families across the community receive a Christmas meal, all you have to do is deliver your donation to the Salvation Army on Putnam Avenue.
“We try to give what is needed for an average size family meal, and we do it based off of how big the family is, so if there’s one to two people in a house, they get a certain size basket, but we even try to accommodate from six to eight people in a family,” Redmond said.
The Salvation Army will distribute the baskets on December 17.
