Herbert L “Herbie” Newman, age 71, of Zanesville, died 9:09 PM, Monday, January 4, 2021, at Genesis Hospital in Zanesville.

He was born Saturday, December 24, 1949, in Zanesville, the son of Jack Newman and Ina (Norman) Newman. He was married on Friday, July 28, 1972, to Jan (Hill) Newman who survives.

Herbie was a truck driver, owning Newman Trucking, and served his country in the US Army.  He was active for many years in the community as a Biddy League Football coach since the 1970s.  He was an avid Zanesville Blue Devils fan and was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend, who never met a stranger and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Herbie is survived by Jan his wife; one daughter, Stacey Newman, grandchildren, Kelsey Skaggs, and Jacob(Kiersten Norris) Skaggs, niece, Brenda (Mike) Box, great nephews, Rodryk and Ray (Meriah) Johnson; great-great niece Aubrielle Johnson, friend Rick Barnhart and bonus daughter, Kerry Dalton.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his son Little Herbie Newman; sisters, Winnie Taylor, Letha Kennedy, and Margaret Cunningham and brothers, George, Eddie, Chuck, Jimmy, and Johnny Newman.

Friends may call from 11 AM to 1 PM on Friday, January 8, 2021, at the Grace Wesleyan Church, 505 Pine Street, Zanesville, where a funeral service will be held at 1 PM.  Burial will conclude in the Woodlawn Cemetery, Zanesville, with the VFW Post #1058 and American Legion Post #29 conducting full military honors.  Due to current health concerns, masks are required and social distancing will be observed.  To sign the online register book or to send a personal condolence note please visit www.hilliscombsnestor.com.
