Holiday Travel Preparations

Thanksgiving is only a few days away, and turkey’s will be carved. However, before that can happen people must get to to their destination.

With many people making their way to Thanksgiving parties it means more people will clog the roadways. Local law enforcement is preparing for the travel by getting more patrol cars on the roads. Sheriff Matt Lutz recommends you give yourself plenty of time to get to your destination.

"Well basically we see a huge increase in the traffic, in the volume of traffic, people going to the different types of parties and different types of plans, family events, friend events, work events and we see a lot of increase in that," said Lutz. "It does cause a lot of congestion on the roadways."

Lieutenant Boyd of the Ohio State Highway Patrol said as roads get more congested it brings more traffic accidents. He adds that getting there safely is more important than not being late to an event. He also stressed the importance on wearing your seat belt as well.

"Just allow more time to be safe and make sure they wear their seat belt," said Boyd. "That tends to be a big problem we have in traffic crashes, you know more injuries, more fatalities."

Lutz said the sheriff’s office will have extra patrolmen out just to be visible and make sure people travel safely.
