Hollis “JR” Reed, 65, of Zanesville, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loved ones on June 15, 2026, at his home.
He was born on April 11, 1961, in Avondale, Ohio, son of the late Hollis Bea Reed Sr. and Grace (Snider) Reed. JR graduated from Southern Missionary College with his Associate’s Degree in Communications in 1982. He worked as a Commercial Fisherman and as a Master Technician for Channel 11 News in Alaska, where he first reported the crash of the space shuttle, “the Challenger”. JR was a lifetime member of the 7th Day Adventist Church of Zanesville. In his free time, he enjoyed tinkering in the garage, playing video games; and above all, fishing.
JR is survived by his wife of 36 years, Rose (Althouse) Reed; 3 children; Jessica Althouse, Johnathon (Elizabeth) Reed, and Jeremiah Reed; brother, Ricky (Maryann) Reed; 3 grandchildren; Hollis, Gabriel, and Carl; many friends and other family members.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Jeff Reed.
