Homeless Hands of Zanesville holds “Rummage Sale”

ZANESVILLE, Ohio — The Homeless Hands of Zanesville held their first “Rummage Sale” this afternoon at the Faith United Methodist Church.
The organization is trying to raise money to purchase a home to help get homeless people off the street. One of the major struggles homeless people experience is simply a lack of identification, but Homeless Hands already has one success story to tell.
“Well it’s a problem because anywhere you go, you have to have identification; whether it’s health care, whether it’s a job, you even have to have an address for that. We have one guy, he was homeless and he lived in a tent. And we got him off the street and he has a house, he has a car, and a really good job now,” explained Robin DeLong, the Vice president for Homeless Hands of Zanesville.
DeLong said that all items that were for sale this afternoon were donated by people from around the community who share an interest in helping their cause.
“We are solely based off of community help, so the more the community helps out, the better it goes. All of this that’s out here today has been donated by our community. We couldn’t have done it without them,” added DeLong.
The sale took place today from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. President Tammy Clark added she was not sure how many people were expected to come through or how much money they hoped to raise. Every little bit helps, Clark said.
