ZANESVILLE, OH-It’s time to cast a line, because Get Kidz Hooked is back for its fourth year, on Sunday March 2nd and it’s sure to be a catch.

The event will take place at the Muskingum County Fairgrounds and is open to all kids 17 and younger. While children must be accompanied by an adult, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

“The number one question I get, even to this day, is why I’m so passionate about fishing and why I put so much effort into Get Kidz Hooked. The truth is, I was that kid who always wanted a fishing pole, always wanted to go fishing, but didn’t have the means or resources. Growing up in a single-parent household with no father figure, I knew that when I got older, I wanted to give back,” Ohio Wildlife Councilman Solomon Curtis said. “I wanted to make a difference in this community, be a light for the kids who feel lost in the dark and provide them with fishing poles and local fishing opportunities.”

This marks the fourth year of Get Kidz Hooked, and it’s bigger and better than ever. Not only will there be free food and a chance to connect with the community, but there are also awesome giveaways and prizes.

“As Kevin Hart says, ‘It’s about to go down!’ On March 2nd, from 1 to 4 PM, the Get Kidz Hooked event will take place. The first 100 kids through the door will receive a Get Kidz Hooked sticker for their tackle box, wall, or refrigerator. After that, every kid who comes through will get a bag, each containing a colored ticket. The red tickets are for fishing poles—over 500 of those will be given away. The white tickets are for tackle boxes or shirts, and the green tickets are the special ones. There will only be 10 green tickets in the bags, and those are for fishing trips with me,” Curtis exclaimed.

The bags are randomly distributed, but every bag includes a ticket, a pack of bobbers, and other goodies. This event isn’t just for kids—parents also have a chance to win big! For the first time ever, Get Kidz Hooked is giving away 10 free fishing licenses for parents and guardians, encouraging them to get out on the water with their families. Best of all, no registration is required to attend the event.

Councilman Curtis would also like to express his gratitude to all the sponsors and the community for their generous support.
