Horace ”Ed” Ballenger (October 11, 1969 – May 28, 2010)

HILLIS & HARDWICK FUNERAL HOME OBIT:

Horace ”Ed” Ballenger, 63 of Zanesville, died 7:11 AM Friday, May 28,2010 at his residence following a sudden illness. He was born Tuesday, October 8, 1946 in Greenville, SC the son of Horace Edward Ballenger, Sr.
and Flora Azilee (Acker) Ballenger. He married Susan (King) Ballenger on Saturday, October 11, 1969 and was a Southern Baptist by faith.

Ed served his country as a United States Air Force Veteran and was a graduate of Muskingum Area Technical College with a Degree in Criminal Justice. He retired in 1994 from the Zanesville Police Department, as a lieutenant, following 25 years of service. He was currently employed in the transportation department at the Muskingum County Center for Seniors and really enjoyed his seniors. Ed was an avid hunter and enjoyed the outdoors. He was a dedicated husband and father who greatly enjoyed spending time with his family. He enjoyed reading and had a great sense of humor. He will be missed by all who knew him.

In addition to his wife of the home, Ed is survived by five sons: William Edward (Tricia) Ballenger of Zanesville; Robert Allen (Jennifer) Ballenger of Pataskala; John Frederic (Sarah) Ballenger of Monticello, IN; Christopher Sean (Stacey) Ballenger of Lancaster and Peter Begley of Monticello, IN; five grandchildren: Austin, Paige, Jayson, Zane and Lincoln Ballenger; one brother: William Ballenger of Charlotte, NC; one sister: Mary Ruth (Bud) Putman, of Anderson, SC; four sisters-in-law: Patricia (Jay) Ardrey, Nancy (George) Rutledge and Patricia Klamke all of Zanesville and Ginny Hetelle of Kenosha, WI; one brother-in-law: Stephen (Cathy) King of Pickerington and numerous
nieces, nephews and friends.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents, one brother-in-law: Thomas W. King and his mother-in-law: Marjorie A. King.

Friends may call from 3:00 to 7:00 PM, Tuesday, June 1, 2010 at The Hillis & Hardwick Funeral Home, 935 Forest Avenue, where funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Wednesday, with Pastor William L. Meaige officiating. Burial will follow in Zanesville Memorial Park with VFW Post 1058 conducting full military honors.
