ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Zanesville Fire Department was called to the corner of Bell and Taylor streets this morning for a house fire.

Assistant Chief Jeff Bell said that at 8:58 a.m. a Zanesville Police officer in the area saw smoke coming from the building and alerted the fire department. Bell said one resident was home at the time and was trapped in the bathroom of the house but that ZPD and ZFD were able to work together and successfully rescue her.

“When engine three from our Leonard Street station when they made the scene they came down and they were able to assist the PD in getting a fireman into the bathroom and getting her out through the window,” said Bell.

Bell said the woman was taken to Genesis for treatment then transferred to Columbus. He said there is extensive fire and smoke damage to the inside of the house and that the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
