ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Officials are encouraging Muskingum County residents to dispose of unwanted household hazardous materials in a safe and environmentally conscious way at an upcoming collection event.

The bi-annual event is sponsored by Southeastern Ohio Joint Solid Waste Management District and the City of Zanesville in order to help properly recycle things that may be dangerous to dispose of in a dumpster and/or the waste water system.

“The safety aspect is if you have it in your garage or if you have kids playing out there. It’s also a safety thing for the refugee collectors, so they won’t get those things on their skin. Bulbs don’t burst and get cut, things like that,” said Issac Vandyne.

The collection day will take place at the Ohio University-Zane State Campus on August 6th from 9 a.m until 3 p.m.

“Some of the things they can get rid of is household paint, oil, gasoline, diesel fuel, pesticides, herbicides, batteries, fluorescent light bulbs. Things that they wouldn’t put out in a regular pick up,” said Vandyne.
